 Step 2 - Determine if Your Name is In Use In CO

 

State of Colorado Business Database

This site, a service of the Colorado Secretary of State, allows you to perform a free search of existing Colorado corporate names to help you determine if your potential new name is already in use.

 

 Step 3 - Determine if Your Name is In Use Nationally

This site, a service of The Wall Street Journal, lets you perform a free search of Federal, Canadian and European trademarks.

NameProtect, Inc. offers fee-based trademark research and  registration services.  Their web site states that they are one of the world's leading trademark research firms, having helped thousands of entrepreneurs, businesses, attorneys, and other intellectual property professionals with trademark needs.

 

www.mycorporation.com

MyCorporation.com claims to be the Internet's leading provider of incorporation, LLC formation, and trademark search services.  Offers a free trademark search service, but also more comprehensive fee-based search services.

Colorado Secretary of State web site

This is the official web site of the Colorado Secretary of State.   If you would like to fill out the paperwork yourself to form a corporation, this site will help.  Includes a simple, downloadable articles of incorporation and other tools to enable you to incorporate in Colorado.

 

Colorado Business Resource Guide

The State of Colorado publishes the Colorado Business Resource Guide.   The Colorado Business Resource Guide provides general information to assist you in operating your business whether you are a new startup or you have been in business for some time. It is designed to save you time by putting together most of the regulatory information necessary to establish a business in Colorado. It also contains many useful tools and references for successful business operation.

This fee-based web site helps you incorporate a business or form a limited liability company in all 50 states and Washington D.C.

 Step 6 - Obtain an IRS Employer Identification Number

 

Go to www.irs.gov and download form SS-4, Application for Employer Identification Number.   This is a one page form that you can use to easily obtain an EIN from the IRS.   The IRS usually responds within a few days.

 

 

 Step 7 - Order Business Cards and Letterhead
