Escape Spreadsheet Hell

You know the feeling - we've all been there.   Spreadsheets are great and as accountants we love them.   But they can get out of control, especially if we try to use them for large, complicated tasks that involve multiple users and multiple spreadsheets.

General tips:

bullet

Visit our Using Excel page for vendors who sell Excel add-on products that can help you consolidate and manipulate multiple spreadsheets.

bullet

Consider using Microsoft Access instead of Excel.  Microsoft Access is a database application, which means that it may be a better solution if you are trying to do something that involves multiple users and multiple spreadsheets.  Visit our Using Microsoft Access page.

bullet

Use a corporate intranet to organize files and more easily distribute information to employees.

Are you using Excel to manipulate information because you can't get  good information off of your accounting system?  It may be time to fix that:

bullet

Try implementing a third-party reporting tool such as Crystal Reports or FRx.

bullet

If you already have a third-party reporting tool but aren't really maximizing it's use, visit our Software Training page for information about available training courses in Colorado.  Or, consider bringing in a consultant to help you (see below).
